Inaugural Juneteenth Celebration
Please join us for our upcoming inaugural Juneteenth Celebration on June 10, 2021 at 1 pm. Juneteenth is the oldest holiday commemorating the ending of slavery in the United States; specifically, when the word of freedom made its way to Texas. We are planning a statewide celebration inviting partners to join with us in recognizing this important part of Texas heritage and American history.

Our keynote speaker will be Kelly Elaine Navies, lead curator and oral historian at the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington D.C. She has also served as oral historian and Special Collections librarian with the Washington D.C. Public Library system. We are honored to have her share the rich history of Juneteenth and how its significance illustrates the hard-fought battle for equality and justice for African Americans.

There will be preshow entertainment starting at 12:45 so feel free to log on early and enjoy.

Jun 10, 2021 01:00 PM in Central Time (US and Canada)
